This article got me so pumped that I immediately sent it to the Spurs fan sitting directly to my left at work and I told him... "In your face!"
I hate the thought of Memphis overpaying Rudy because of the domino effect it will have on Mayo, Zbo, and Gasol. Keeping all four players is going to be tough if not borderline impossible. I really really like Rudy but paying him as the face of the franchise when he probably can't produce at a level equal to his pay is just team suicide imo.
Working out a sign and trade would be ideal. Getting Luol Deng or some pieces from the Twolves or even double sign and trade on Travis Outlaw and pieces.
It would be really bad to resign Rudy, not have money for Brewer, and lose Brewer for nothing along with the draft pick he cost the team all in exchange for the handful of games he played.
He makes 10mil a year whereas Rudy is going to make 13+ easy, it's not about who is better 1v1 it is about who is better for the money and best for the team.
Would you sign Rudy Gay to a contract if you KNEW 100% that you wouldn't be able to sign one of these three: ZBO, OJ, or Marc?
The absolute worst part about the possibility of overpaying Rudy Gay (meaning over 13 mill a season) is the domino effect it is going to have on the entire franchise. ZBO will be expecting max, Gasol will be expecting Rudy money and OJ will be expecting Rudy money. All that money leaves little left for bench or rotation guys.
Rudy is not a player that you MAX out, he just isn't. I think he is awesome as all get out but for around 13 mill a year TOPS, anything over that and his awesomeness greatly fades and fast.
I wish the Grizzlies front office would offer him up in a sign and trade with Chicago for Deng next Thursday at 12:01am
I don't dislike Rudy but I don't like him at the cost of the entire franchise.
lol I constantly read about how these Grizzlies are going to "surprise" people. With what?!?
Surprise people with more trades for cash considerations?
Surprise people with another mid 20s win season?
Surprise people with more top tier talent regression because there is no vision in place (re: last year Rudy Gay)?
Surprise people with more safe one year contract moves?
Surprise people with a NEW 3 year plan starting from this year?
Seriously... I wish the homers would just stop it for a minute and THINK. There is no surprise. During this offseason Memphis missed on David Lee and Boozer FOR SURE, gave up Warrick because he was too expensive lol, took on one of the worst contracts in Zach Randolph, and drafted a "project" player at the #2 pick in the draft.
I am a fan of the Grizzlies but I am not retarded, these moves (for lack of a better term) are laughable.
Not to mention with the 5 mil offer to Iverson and the 3 mil off the table to Warrick the Grizzlies could have gone out and worked up a contract and picked up David Lee. Then you would have had Randolph, Lee, and Arthur which would be pretty awesome. But hey that would have been money spent so forget that. They could have got Ramon Sessions, but the homers would say "Oh he can't shoot the 3 ball like Conley" ... yet Sessions was pretty much statistically better in every other category lol.
Guys stop being sheep about this franchise.
OMG YOU CAN'T TEACH SIZE DON'T YOU KNOW THAT.....
Wow that piece you wrote for MBQ was killer Chris. Really "learned" me about some of the specifics I had not known.
Hopefully a couple of moves (maybe an Iverson move) will get some more people in the seats so that Memphis can move up a slot or two. I know at this point it isn't about competing revenue with LA or NY but it is more about just keeping the team here. Hell I'd be a brand new season ticket holder if they got Iverson just for the fact that I would get to sit and watch a future guaranteed hall of famer play for all the home games. Would be neat.
