Re: “On the Phone with Bill Cunningham of the Box Tops

I just wanted to say how humble Bill is. He used to take his son into the Music & Arts Center in Burke Virginia to take piano lessons. I happen to instruct drums and percussion. He sat there reading a book as we struck up a conversation.

He asked me: "how is the music business these days?" I replied: "not as good as it could be" as he said: "sounds like it hasn't changed much". I asked if he worked in a group and he said: "maybe you heard of them..."The Box Tops". "The big hit we had was called, The Letter". Amazing how as- matter-factly he told me and of course I knew who they were!

Refreshing from the music icon that he is; that he would take the time to ask how things were going in my career at that time. A quiet understated personality that sets him apart from most other musicians I've met. Thank you for the interview Andria.

Sincerely,

Alan Schrager
