Gasol looks good. As does Randolph. Gay got it going on the typical one on one non-assisted plays. Conley looked ok but it gets out of his hands and never comes back. Anyone who thinks Mayo is a 1 is insane. Very bad handle for a point. He just looks bad tonight.
Haddadi and Williams look ok off the bench. Carroll looks terrible. As does Thabeet.
Hey, let's watch Gilder...maybe he can play.
Michael Heisley is probably the only person who could take three draft picks (including the #2) and tons of cap space and somehow
(a) end up with a team that is no better than it was last year; and
(b) have the small fan base less excited than ever.
No small feat.
This franchise is a joke.
ZBo played 5 min and 16 min per game in his first two seasons in Portland - the only two seasons he has been on a winning team. He's far from a winner and far from someone who could unify the city.
AI is such a winner that he basically quit last season after being told he was coming off the bench in Detroit. Oh, that's right, he was sent home with a "back injury" and now is in demand by the Grizzlies and, apparently, no one else.
Meanwhile, it looks like we could have gone after someone like Boozer (in a trade) if we wanted to rent a player for a year. And though I don't love Boozer, at least he's no ZBo.
Those opposed to these moves (ZBo, AI) oppose them not b/c they make the Griz worse next year - it's b/c they hinder the development of young players at a time when they could really use a steady veteran influence. OJ could potentially be an all star one day and exposure to the "Hoop Family" and/or late nights with AI could (not would, could) derail this.
Heisley is a joke.
gdark23 is the man!
Seriously, when every Clipper fan is thrilled about the trade, when the league laughs at the Griz for acquiring ZBo, when Mike Dunleavy is compared to Red Auerbach...the Griz have problems.
ZBo will promote the "every man for himself" attitude that will kill this team.
This is a disaster. The Griz essentially made their free agent signings for the next two seasons by trading for a guy who is probably the most notorious cancer in the NBA. They can't pick up anyone over the MLE at this point and, of course, they won't - they will sign a back-up at the 1/2 for low salary, maybe let Warrick go and then, when Randolph gets hurt/breaks the law/whatever, Heisley will claim that, hey, it's not his fault - he committed to a big salaried player and it didn't work out. But he showed commitment to the city and they didn't come out to support his team.
Heisley is the only owner in the league who could take the hope of the offseason - 2nd pick and huge amount of cap space - and turn it into Thabeet (who will mark the end of a good center - Gasol - in Memphis) and Randolph. Hell, they could've gone after Villeneuva for less!
