... and did you have to get a license for the dancing season?
Could the Cherokee Trail Golf Course have been at the site of the Cherokee Bowling Lanes on Lamar? You would be going southeast on Lamar from Parkway (or am I completely turned around?). This is fantastic, Vance. It gives me something to do (other than working on my taxes like I should) by looking up all these fabulous places. Thanks!
I don't have a clue about this cool photograph, but the kids look like they're about to punch the man. The way he's looking at the older boy says, "C'mon — give it your best shot!"
I sooo loved Overton Square back in the day! I still go to Maggie's Pharm and when I leave, I always make sure to drive down Madison and reminisce!! Oh Lord, I hope they bring it back to life! :)
When our family moved to Southaven, Mississippi, in 1984, a Welcome Wagon hostess brought a huge basket full of wonderful gifts and goodies to us. I will always remember how special it made me feel. I didn't know anyone and I was so busy taking care of our 3 children, all under the age of 6. You will never realize what a blessing an act of kindess will be! :)
I graduated from IC and still have the oh-so-sassy saddle Oxfords like these girls. G-day was every 7th school day (the first 6 were designated A-F) where regular classes were replaced by fun electives (I took Oriental cooking and it rocked -- we made won-tons and always ate something fabulous). Thanks for a fun look back for us "IC chicks"! :)
Re: “The Elks Club and Elks Hotel”
I really enjoyed looking at these pictures! One thing that troubles me is the picture of the swimming pool-I was noticing the high diving board and what appears to be "3 feet deep" right below it. Yikes! Please tell me I'm seeing it wrong. Even if it was 8 feet, that's a pretty high dive.
