Re: “The Rant

Tim, you write the words of a very angry person. Perhaps to keep the ball bouncing, so to speak, or perhaps because your libral bias demands it. Anger only begets anger. It certainly does nothing to foster the understanding of issues. You're entitled to your feeling of "rightness", I suspose, but what's with the "anger"? Do you have a problem expressing yourself without it? I personally have watched the political circus for over 50 years and the one thing that's for sure is - nothing is new. The issues haven't changed, and, though the names are different, neither has the way the press serves up the people in the game. The "opinionators" have changed a bit. Nowdays they seem to be more like "hate-mongers" only feeling powerful when pontificating in a "Jerry Springer" style hoorah show. Can you be a little better than that, Tim?

Re: “Letter from the Editor

"I don't pretend to have a special window into what the Lord wants any of us to do, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't involve burning the sacred texts of any of the world's religions. And I'm also quite sure there are a whole lot of misguided people out there doing horrible things in his name."

Really..? How about since the humanoid started adding carbon-monoxide to the planet's atmosphere. There just seems to be no end to the "Learned People" out there (see comments) who have all the answers to the world's problems, are convenced that S. Palen is the spawn of the devil, G. Beck is the son-of-satan, Obama is the "2nd Coming" and J. Biden is not a "Pale-Face who speakes with forked tongue"! How in Heaven's name did all those people get bestowed with so much wisdom; let alone speak with such an all-knowing authority.

"An enlightened man once said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." I'd say if you start there, everything else will fall into place."

There was ALSO something mentioned that goes, "Judge not least ye' be judged." Perhaps all these commentors who have an exclusive on the "truth" (cough, cough) and are so convenced that their side of the story is the one and only truth should take a step back and take stock of themselves. Everyone has an opinion, but some of these commentors seem to have an inside line on what's fact and what's fiction. The only thing missing is the sales pitch for their DVDs on why they're right and everyone else is wrong.

And to wvfii... I defy you to look into the eyes of any person our military saved from certain death by the hands of a ruthless dictator and tell them that their life doesn't matter. You, obviously, have not worn the uniform of nor served this country in any way but to take up space. To borrow a line from The Bourne Identity... "why don't you book a conference room? Maybe you can talk them to death." No war is pretty. You just need to decide who's side you're on - and stick with it!

I don't think God hates anybody. This muslim/christian-christian/muslim feud has been going on for thousands of years and has gotten kind of like two rival football teams. Each prays before the game for God to grant them victory. Now, I ask you. Does that make ANY sense at all?????! I say, "may God grant us the peace, the wisdom and the time to really look into the heart of the universe and try to genuinely understand the "Truth" - before we, in our infinite wisdom, 'humanize' it."

Re: “Letters to the Editor

"Remember, there are no term limits in Congress. If we get stuck with Cohen this term, we will be stuck with him for the rest of our lives. I'm asking you to vote for Willie Herenton in August. Don't let the "Black" caucus, the elite "black" national leadership corps, the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the black media hoodwink you. If it is time to disband ourselves as a group, be it called "black" or African American, then let the inside elite "blacks" go first."

Ok... Whomever is sick of the "Race" Card, please raise your hand. All things "Black" need to be groomed, encouraged, pampered, trained, force-fed education, offered a seat, given "anything" free and provided a guarantee that "Whitey" won't interfere with whatever decisions are made that are susposed to be for the benefit of "All" AMERICANS! Yeah, I said it - Americans. Every Veteran, and his/her family and loved ones, who's been to war for this country has sacrificed for - Americans - Black, White, Yellow, Brown, Green and Purple! So long as any - person, person/s, group of people, village, town, city, metropolis, state or Nation - continues to live life looking in a rearview mirror, the only thing any will do is guarantee that they will continue to do what they've always done and continue to get what they always got! Maia - I beg you. Put down the "Race Card". If you feel as though your community of "Americans" is inadequate for the task at hand, then by God get educated - get prepared - get a racket and get in the game, for goodness sake. When integration came in the late '60's, life changed for everyone. A large portion of this country has moved on, and a whole lot of Americans are getting tired of the "whine". Your statement, "Do your part, use your grapevine, don't send the world the message that Cohen was correct, that we are too politically immature to govern ourselves." Frankly, you are exactly what you believe yourself to be. I leave it to you to decide what that is, but please don't be so pedestrian as to pander to any one politician for a free ticket to ride the gravy train. Look - "Life's hard - Get a helment"!
