I completely agree with your piece. Unfortunately you have a large segment of Memphians who simply are not engaged enough and don't grasp how detrimental it is to have leaders who are only interested in getting what they can out of public office, not necessarily becoming public servants.
Although he won't beat Cohen, it would been better to stick with the issues. Having these old hustlers won't help him grow support. If you've got to list Ophelia Ford as an endorser, you've already lost.
Wilkins joins a long list of former candidates who wanted to take on Cohen without having held a job in public service. Personal accomplishments are great but it's not the same thing as having a job as a public servant.
The only problem with the MCS board holdovers is that Dr. Cash had a PhD and look where that got MCS. They provided no educational oversight because they were in awe of his credentials. He was able to come in like the wolf and theif he turned out to be, and completely pull to wool over their eyes by lowering standards under the guise of raising them. Aitken was supremely capable of running the district, based on a solid track record which is the only thing that should be considered. A really sad day for Memphis and for Shelby County.
Why don't you add the decision to remove "F" from the current grading system to your list of items.
This policy is racist and should not be apart of any system, anywhere. Especially Memphis.
