Re: “Can Raleigh Spring Back?

as a resident of scenic hills for almost a year now,i have to agree that raleigh is not the bad side of town it is continually painted to be.i myself had the same impression before moving here, and had to fight against my apprehensions,as well as being a 20-something die-hard fan of midtown living. In spite of seeming a little out of place, after this first year,i can happily say that this is the quietest, most well groomed (thanks to the wonderful residents around me) home i have ever had in memphis, and am proud to add to the eclecticism and integration of the area. the loud noise, unsavory neighbors, vandalism and theft i left behind in midtown are a thing of the past. there is a consistent law enforcement presence, and while it's no fun if you're speeding, it makes me feel safer than midtown. the only problems we've had so far involve the stray/escaped dog population, and the city waste department's half-assed job at trash removal. both of these seem to have obtainable solutions.the inconvenience and low property values are keeping people away though, and the city has got to bite the bullet and inject something substantial into the area for the better of memphis as a whole.i agree completely with the statement "if we can turn around raleigh and frayser,we can turn around memphis."i plan on staying to be a part of that turnaround.
