It's because of the old days, back when milk was delivered by the milkman and not bought at the market - our grannies & grampies risked being without milk in case of snowstorm or otherwise 100-year-blizzard.
So now their spirits are laughing at us from afar, through the mists of time, the way we go 'round the bend clearing the shelves of staples like milk at every threat of worsening weather.
I'm all stocked up for any storm, as long as I have cat food and cat litter!
