Following on the heels of the Pope's encyclical on the environment, this is a very timely message that hopefully will resonate with everyone reading it. Thanks for your leadership!!!
The City of Memphis needs to send inspectors out to deal with all the vacant lots that are causing a health hazard and blight in neighborhoods across the City. Harassing a community garden effort by a group of youth is a shameful waste of time and energy. For example, on South Avenue in south Memphis near Wilson and South Parkway, there are many vacant lots & abandoned properties on one block (at least 5 or 6) that have 5 feet weeds and is creating a danger to the other homeowners that are trying to exist in the community. The neighbors need help from the City to get the lots cut and/or push the landowners to clean up their own property. Haul them into court, levy fines, and cleanup our neighborhoods and leave folks alone that are trying to do something positive!!!
