Progress is only being made at MAS because too many folks have become aware of how it could be, should be run, like other no kill shelters where the many methods are put into operation to rescue the dogs & cats.
MAS for too long has had unqualified, uncareing mean employees that got away with anything imaginable. The cats & dogs paid for it as well as Memphis' mayor & city's reputation. Time has come for something better.
The very best dogs I have seen & are bragged about the most by their care takers' are the dogs that have been labled as "too vicious, too mean, unadoptable, unsocialized, bad dogs etc."
Over & over I have seen the worst & least adoptable dogs turn out to be the BEST dogs when taken in by understanding & patient folks.
I believe it is the people who don't understand dogs and generally are afraid of dogs that lable them as "unadoptable or vicious." That is why I firmly believe that there are NO unadoptable dogs, only unadoptable excuses & people who mis-lable dogs and don't understand them.
I have heard on more than one occasion how the FOMAS have intentially run off volunteers, berate them, reject them, fire them, won't accept necessary help, won't allow petty requests, restricts their areas of access, can't take constructive criticism AND wont stand up to report abuse or mistreatment. Would potential volunteers wish to subject themselves to such abuse when all they want to do is help?
Volunteers are a blessing, should be cherished and given every opportunity possible to promote the well being of ALL the animals.
