Regarding white flight in reverse, I'm all for it. MCS has been very accommodating in trying to give our little girl a well-balanced and racially diverse classroom. We were excited to send our daughter to the local school. It was/is 85% African American. We had no problem with our daughter being a minority at the school, we just didn't want her to the be the overwhelming minority in her classroom. The school has three kindergarten classes. We could have had two white kids and 16-18 African American kids per classroom or one classroom with 6 white kids and 12-14 African American kids. The school agreed that the latter option allowed for diversity and balance. My hope is that as more local families send their kindergartners to this school, we will have two and then three classes that are well-balanced. It's a great school. Excellent staff - experienced, loving, proficient. Top quality professionals. More white families should stop being scared and at least visit. Our African American brother and sisters drive from all over Memphis to send their children to this gem - because they know how great it is. My wife and I have enjoyed making some new friendships with these parents. It is schools like this that create community and make Memphis a great city.
