He is 100% on target. Mem has always had a low O&D traffic.
Many Airlines have tried to have a major operation in Memphis and have failed.
The Airline industry is a for profit business and is responsible to make the
best decisions for those who invest their money in them. It is not a socialor charitable service. If Memphis can make a profit for the airline they will keep the service up
if it is a losing operation they are required to take measures to correct the problem.
The citizens of Memphis have been very fortunate to have carriers like Republic, Northwest and Delta provide service to Memphis over the past four decades.
The population of Memphis does not warrant a hub operation. Less than 30% of
the traffic is through the front door.
I also recommend the citizens of Memphis support Delta as it is much better
service than they will be getting from low cost carriers. Then there is the issue of
non stop service which Delta provides that the others will not.
