Re: “Opportunity Lost

The United Network for Organ Sharing mandates that each transplant center provide all transplant candidates with information about multi-center listings. A person can be listed at more than one center. That means that transplant centers in all states can and do have patients from other states listed at their centers. We have had to send Tennessee residents to other states to be listed at their transplant centers due to insurance provider requirements. That does not mean these TN residents did not want to stay and be transplanted here in Memphis. There is alot more involved in this that most people will ever know. LeBonheur Children's Hospital is the ONLY pediatric liver transplant program in the states of Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi. This is a terribly unfortunate situation for the children of our area and my heart goes out to these kids and their families.
