hey DATGUY, i dont have a direct answer, but i havenan andwer. other may have a more direct answer. the greensward is used whether or not the zoo lot is full. the problem isnt overflow parkin--theres a massive parking surplus, and tiger lane alone could park the entire zoo. its just money, which thenzoo has in abundance ifnit wants to expand or
build an exhibit. the zoo just doesnt want to pay for a deck or a parking garage. they dont want to run a shuttle service.
this is a huge fuck you to the city of memphis from the zoo and its city council buddies and whoever pulls their strings. i sure hope im wrong, but this is a tactic to kill a movement. indefinite continuation (2019 gimme break theres already a massive parking surplus) of the status quo is not a victory.
if the opposition to the zoos annexation of the greensward lays down its a huge victory for the zoo.
this agreement is also a violation of the sunshine law.
chris reyes is right on the money. bullseye. damn.
food trucks...park em wherever. leave the nursery there. the people here like it and they want it to stay here. the food trucks are for visitors to the neighborhood, and they can visit the food trucks in another visible location that doesnt screw/invoncenience/against the interests of the people who live here.
what live music venue was lost to lack of support? the hi-tone was the busiest its ever been. once a year this place gets overrun by hipsters, but, that's bearable to me.
this city is not white enough to be so hipster. but, damn, its cheap, and they could sure as shit move here and live very comfortably. stay in portland, asheville, austin, williamsburg, bushwick, etc. please. in fact, follow that L-train. fine with me. though we do have our solid hipster pockets here, memphis has too much real personality for this place to go hipster mecca.
at the same time, damn, this place could use a functional vegan restaurant, vegetarian restaurant, etc. we have the record store that, to some exetent, dictates hipster music taste globally. if you build a wagon and people all over the wold wanna hop on, well, shit, you BUILT something, so kudos out the yin-yang to goner.
