As a member of the Knoxville Bar Association and Tennesee Bar Association I am surprised by the comments. The Memphis Bar Association, like the KBA and TBA, conduct such polls as a public service for the simple purpose of letting the public know the opinion of lawyers about judicial candidates. The public needs the input, because most people have little contact or information about judges. Because of judicial conduct rules, Judges are limited as to what they can say. The Memphis Bar, as well as the other Bar Associations across the state, that conduct voter awareness activities should be commended for making the effort.
