Re: “Izakaya to Close

@barf - my comment regarding likes/dislikes has nothing to do with your concern (or lack thereof) with your post's popularity but with its clearly unsuccessful execution and delivery of your intended message.

My concern lies with the negative, self-defeating, antagonistic attitudes too many people in this town have about living here. It's easy to bitch and be sarcastic and make negatively-toned jokes - but what does that accomplish? Sarcasm can be a wonderful tool but it can be incredibly passive aggressive, too. But hey, you seem to enjoy attempting to clarify your point(s) over and over in lots of different articles on this here website thingy, so carry on....

Re: “Izakaya to Close

Sorry, @barf - if you have to explain it, then it wasn't a very successful attempt a humor or sarcasm. Based on the number of dislikes of your comment, clearly others took yours at face value as well. Maybe a direct reply @FUNK would have helped relate the comments. Otherwise it just exists in a, er, sous vide?

@barf - Memphis is a dump and you can't sell quality here, huh? Weird you run your own dining blog if your opinion is that everything here is such crap. I'm sure the restaurants you patronize would LOVE to know your true feelings about their businesses....

Re: “Why The Fuss?

@FUNKbrs - To say that someone who has a personality disorder that impairs their ability to make objective, rational decisions should be given the same consideration for the office of the president is as someone who has bad knees is a logical AND ethical fallacy.

I don't think he deserves respect, not because of his very obvious personality disorder, but for his hate-based, racist rhetoric and policies which inherently dehumanize, debase and devalue not just other Americans but all human beings.

Re: “Why The Fuss?

I'm not saying he's crazy, I'm saying has a clinically defined personality flaw that makes him incredibly vulnerable to manipulation and, as such, in a position that commands so much power, is inherently dangerous to the country.

Re: “Why The Fuss?

Liz is spot on, and this is what the biggest danger is that too many underplayed, chose to ignore, or didn't understand - he is, certifiably, a narcissist. He said and did anything to get elected, to hear the cries of support at his rallies by his angry base. He rallied around those who stroked his ego and attacked anyone who dare challenge him. And what is terrifying is that the people who stuck by him despite his horrible rhetoric and substance-free policies - literally the dwellers at the very bottom of the swamp - are the ones he is now rewarding for their sycophantic allegiance.

Combined, the personal and situational flaws - he's a clinical narcissist who possesses a fundamental ignorance about the role of the office to which he has been elected as well basic economic and democratic principles - will make it easy for those near him to manipulate him to suit their own agendas. One hope that we can share is that due to his blinding incompetence, he stands at high odds to do something impeachable. Mike Pence, for other reasons entirely, is as contemptible if not moreso, but that's a thread for another day.

If anyone doubts Trump doesn't have Narcissistic Personality Disorder, I encourage you to learn more about the disorder itself: http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditi…
