<![CDATA[What Chas and other anti-gay religious foks don't seem to get is that IF homosexuality and heterosexuality are both chosen behaviors, then why should those who chosse to practice a "straight lifestyle" get special rights and priviledges over those who choose to be gay? And by your logic, since homosexuality is nothing more than a "behavior" (a position I don't take), and therefore it should not be recognized as a right since it is a behavior like murder, theft, etc...

      <![CDATA[JLuv,
I do support "critical scientific inquiry" which is why I'm baffled by the uncritical acceptance of biological essentialist claims about human sexuality, especially "sexual orientation," one of a series of "scientific" constructs to explain same-sex desire and identity. There are in fact many behavioral clinical studies which suppor the social constructionist view, including "Queer by Choice: Lesbians, gay men, and the policis of Identity" by Ver Whisman, who interviews a number of lesbians who believe it was their choice to be gay/lesbian.

<![CDATA[The importance of focusing on the reality of people's lives rather than dogmatic rhetoric is paramount. The author seems to be able to criticize those he disagrees whith but unfortunately Jim Maynard is unable to do this for himself.

<![CDATA[Jim Maynard’s entire premise is that all of us have an absolute right to choose sexual orientation. His argument also assumes any choice whatsoever; since he decries any religious or political sanctions against his view.
