Even if Bates' story was a scam, it was such a bold and incredible claim. Did St. John really say those things to Bates or anyone else?

My grandmother, who once lived in Memphis, gave me a copy of Finis's book awhile back. It is a hardback and the pages are all yellow and loose.

I have scanned it.

As many readers know there was a great deal of publicity about the mummy in recent decades. I was the historian who, along with my colleague from Tennessee, the late Dr. Arthur Ben Chitty brought this controversy to the very gates of the nation's attention as we were featured in 1991 on NBC-TV's highly rated show "Unsolved Mysteries" (the double segment they did was seen by over 30 million people!).

I am actually very disappointed by this article - not by the content or how well it was written but simply the fact that this was put forth as the feature article and wasn't even written for the Flyer. A version of this story originally appeared in Memphis magazine.
    Come on, folks.

I have read in the past that Finis himself toured the body which in a way discredits him as a reasonable source for the "conspiracy theory" around Lincoln's assasination. Also, Kathy Bates' father is named Langdon Doyle Bates - is this a connection to the famous Memphian?
