<![CDATA[I would like to suggest that one of the biggest roadblocks to consolidation is the type of blatant racism posted above. Talking about "white folks" and "white devils" and "King Willie" serves only to further inflame already powerful racial tensions.

<![CDATA[Let's face it "white folks",(if you are African American bear with me while I talk with my fellow devils) King Willie has just about succeeded in his plan for an all African American city. As conditions in this city have become less and less conducive to the white folks efforts for a clean and safe city, they have fled to the neighboring counties where law enforcement still has some what of a handle on things.

<![CDATA[Agreed on the community aspect. But if each of the constituencies is individually served (your "taxed twice" example is just one aspect of how that works) then what contributes to the perception that consolidation goes *against* city-residents' self-interest?
