My guess is that the very fact that they are planning to move in a few doors down means they can't wait to pop in every day, several times a day, just to chat or have a cup or whatever. Grandparents who value their privacy don't like living next door to a bunch of screaming grandkids.

Letting them know, in the nicest possible way, of the ground rules before they move will probably hurt their feelings. But it will probably discourage them from moving in next door, too. It's a good thing hubby isn't close to them. If you were married to a mama's boy, you'd be all alone in this and pretty much effed.

So unless they're rich and you're counting on them to fund your retirement or pay off your house note or put the kids through college, I'd suggest letting them know, ASAP, that they will be welcome to visit on your schedule only. That way they're not making decisions under any illusions. Eventually they'll get over it.

Or not.

When you hear things like "How can I make him love me?" and "My happiness depends on this relationship" coming out of your own mouth, it's time to GTFO ASAP. There is only one happy outcome for this situation, and that is for the relationship to come to and end. On the bright side, it ought to be pretty easy to accomplish. If you want him to leave and never come back again, just tell him those things and if he's got any sense he's pretty much guaranteed to hit the road immediately.

Also, I know a family who had some kids that would sleepwalk so they went to the store and picked up some motion-activated alarms. They are tiny little things that can be mounted to any wall, door, etc and if you walk in front of it, it trips the sensor and makes an awful, high-pitched waiting noise. Maybe she could put on of these in her room to set at night in hopes of waking herself up before wandering into an embarrassing situation.

And along the same lines of Jeff's reply - if she is aware of this and isn't willing to do anything to make it stop then maybe you do need to have a talk about her "liking" this sort of behavior.

If the fact that he has to forcefully eject Her Ambien-Zombie Nakedness from the bedroom doesn't inspire her to stop taking Ambien, I would be inclined to wonder if Ambien weren't a convenient excuse for her behavior. She wouldn't be the first person to blame her loose morals on drink or drugs and claim to have no memory of the happy occassion. Most sane people, upon learning they are doing dangerous things while sleepwalking, will try to stop themselves from sleepwalking. So whether she's shielding her conscience with tales of Ambien-inspired sleepshagging, or she just doesn't care, she's definitely mental. If dude doesn't have a door, I recommend stacking empty beer cans in front of his door every night - at least until he finds a new apartment.
