I happened across a newspaper article that described Mr. Oldrieve’s accomplishment and found this site after searching more about him. The newspaper article (“Ocean voyage afoot” from “The News” (of Frederick, Maryland), 18 Mar 1907) described his wife as “a six foot brunette weighing 250 pounds” who grew up in a small community in Nova Scotia, about a hundred miles from Halifax.

The article explained that Mr. Oldrieve’s next planned water-walking feat would be walking across the English Channel, followed by a trek across the ocean.

Charles Oldrieve made a living performing at outdoor festivals on lakes and rivers. He and his wife Carolyn would set off fireworks, he would walk on water...etc. It was a great entertainment according to the period newspaper reviews I have read.
It was at one of these performances that Carolyn suffered burns and was admitted to a hospital.
