I second your sentiments. I used to train hard but my routine has been downsized to swimming 2-3 days a week, push-ups, stretching and skating.

This may be blasphemy, but I would argue that GOLF is a game, not a sport. Certainly there is a great deal of athletic skill involved. But there is no defense, and you're not even hitting a ball that is moving. Basically you play your best game, your opponents play theirs, and later you compare scores to see who won. Same with bowling. With billiards, on the other hand, you do get some chance to leave your opponent in a tight spot. In golf, if your ball gets in the way, you politely move it. A great game, yes, and a difficult one. But a sport, no.

38103: Game, yes. Sport, no. Same goes for Scrabble, bridge, picking stocks, politics, and poker. But bass fishing, stock car racing, and dodgeball are sports. Hunting's a pasttime.

      John,

Its great you have found a sport (squash) that seems to fit your circumstances in life. Is it possible, however, that it appeals to you more than some old standby sports because it is the one in which you are improving? Unlike all your other sports, the way you are playing now is near the top of your game. You know you are past that in the other sports you've played for decades. Continual improvement is a good motivator.
