If sponsors have plays they love and want to see and they are willing to fund those shows in a way that insures their relative success and theaters agree to do those shows then seasons are very much for sale. When those scripts are presented as more of a fact than an option to a group of readers assembled to schedule a season of plays with artistic merit and commercial viability then the fix is in.

I said "let me be clear" because I've been doing this for years and can anticipate a lot.

There's no law against trading goods and services for sponsorship. I don't think the play would have been on a main stage had it not had some help: the fix.

I think it was bad decision making not bad faith.

But Mr. Davis, you use words and phrases like "seasons for sale," "the fix," "is the definition of sketchy," and "tampering." No one else that I have ever encountered would use words and phrases like these to describe someone's behavior and then claim that they said "very clearly that nobody has done anything wrong."

No, not unethical at all. I say very clearly that nobody has done anything wrong and that I'm thrilled that an arts organization did something this nice for a patron as fantastic as Dorothy Kirsch.

Mr. Davis, so are you accusing the Executive Producer at Theatre Memphis of unethical behavior? Because that's exactly how your article reads.
