As to the discussion - I've got to agree with Packrat: "I 'infer' from the fact that bible-believing Christians get divorced all the time and remarry that they don't let what the Bible says get in the way of what they really really want."

Sure, CHG - some of those might be biblically "allowed" cases like infidelity or spousal abuse - but for the most part, a lot of "Christians" are Christians in name only and don't let the Bible get in the way of what they really want.

We use "God" to support the causes we're already passionate about, damn those that we don't have too much use for, excuse the radical inconsistencies in our lives, and then we go on to simply ignore whole swaths of the Bible when we find it convenient.

Of course, I would say that this all goes back to the problem of "cultural" Christianity that plagues the Southeast.

That comment has been dealt with for years in the fallacy of polling and such. An organization or institution like a church contains many members.

If we follow this logic to its sound conclusion, then we should tell a radical Muslim to be true to their beliefs and keep on be-heading folks and bombing buildings in America.

Cultural Christianity in the South, where people are expected - because of cultural norms - to act, live, believe a certain way, is actually frustrating for believers and non-believers alike. I much prefer an atmosphere where the free exchange of ideas is encouraged without social pressure to be what you are not.
