FedEx will do things that will make Fed-Ex more money. Busting unions will just mean they have more profits for shareholders.

The Ramp workers only get 20-30 hours a week sometime, and people can't live off that type of wage.

Busting unions is like outsourcing Apple products to China.

One of the largest unions in the country, the United Steel Workers union, has recognized that what was perhaps progressive 50 years ago or more is not necessarily the best approach for protecting the worker and keeping a business afloat.

Last October the 1.2 million member organization signed a agreement to work with the Mondragon Cooperative Corporation- a 120,000 worker-owned corporation. When the labor is both worker and owner a whole new dynamic is brought into play.

This may not be practical for FedEx or existing companies but is worth noting that other major unions are recognizing the need to evolve under the pressure of a global economy.

Here is the link to the USW agreement:
What Gadfly said, mostly, but it should be noted that the article you linked has a couple of interesting veiled threats attached, as well: "...FedEx would cease new investment in its Express unit should the House language prevail. FedEx has also said it may cancel the purchase of 15 Boeing Co. 777 freighter jets it has on order if the legislation changes the way its workers are treated."

Those are pretty blatant strongarm tactics, especially given that the legislation would provide a level playing field between FedEx and UPS (and the post office, which is also unionized), and give FedEx workers some means to redress grievances via collective bargaining.

The law itself is fairly outdated, a throwback to a time when the transportation infrastructure in the US was effectively nationalized and a workers strike could shut down a city or air transport entirely.

You make a fine argument and could even convince a few people to change their position. While I do agree that unions can and have been a positive force, I think that a lot of the criticism leveled at many of them is warranted.
