Shreveport, now thats what most folks think of when they think big city...or maybe that other giant metropolis Little Rock...sorry but the reason some of those places aren't facing these kind of problems is because they are small cities, Peers to Jackson MS, Knoxville, Pensacola etc. These are big boy problems and by fashioning ourselves like our peers, Nashville, Indy, Charlotte. Heres a good way to look at it, an area must have at least one million population, pro sports (a good asset), and have all those other great things we want.

What Marty said, with more emphasis on the small minded part.

I've made it clear that I do not like the way the voter districts are drawn up and I also don't understand why there will not be any reduction in personnel, but the reasons that most are against consolidation only reinforce the fact that this is a racially polarized/paralyzed metropolitan area crippled by small minded pettiness.

You're whistling in the wind, John, and so is Fred Smith. When interest groups as diverse as the NAACP, AFSCME, the Shelby County Democratic Party and the county commission all oppose consolidation, consider it DOA.
