I with mad merc on this. Estate tax should go, but $250K folks should pay more tax....now that the cuts have continued, I'm afraid the cuts will continue perpetually.

I am pretty much against the estate tax on the grounds that it is just plain old fashioned robbery. The majority of that money has already been taxed.

Anyone who owns a business worth enough to be subject to the estate tax at the exemption levels it has been at recently ought to have enough basic estate planning to avoid having to shut down. The reason most family businesses fail to succeed multigenerationally has nothing to do with the estate tax and everything to do with entrepreneurial management and sales skills not being something that is often inherited in abundance by successive generations.

I like this vote but not Steve's reasons for it. Steve still needs to understand George Gilder's _Wealth and Poverty_ with regard to the estate "tax," which confiscates huge portions of families' already after-tax savings and the value of their family businesses, often to the point of forcing those business to shut down.

All those cuts and the vastly overly long-lasting "unemployment" benefits should have been allowed to expire, so that the American people would have had to start paying more for the wars and other accumulated spending going on instead of borrowing still more vast sums from the Chinese to pay for them and would have to act more like the young neighbor of mine who moved in with his mother this year and knocked on my door again just yesterday looking for ANY KIND OF WORK.
