Nice ad hominem, Marty.

I only posted because your fear mongering, wildly inaccurate article pissed me off. Belief in pure ideology at the expense of reason is how you get folks to fly airplanes into buildings - you'd do well to remember that before cashing in on a tragedy to further your own personal agenda (see: two can play the ad hominem game).

If you want something *real* to worry about - major earthquakes happen in "clusters".

@barf: the Wikipedia article is poorly worded - try reading this:
The source for the "one million" is biased, and seems to include deaths that haven't happened yet (based on his previous publications, a range from 1986 to 2056). The author also seems to think that the WHO and IAEA are conspiring for some reason.

Hmm, what if we rated the safety of power generation as deaths per terawatt hour?

That's right - if this nuclear reactor claims something like 10,000 lives it would move nuclear from the *safest* method of producing energy that we have ever invented to second-safest, overtaking wind power.

You folks are letting emotion and bias confirmation cloud your judgement. If you don't think you're biased, try reading this comment over at ./ :
And why do you keep comparing bombs to reactors?

Actually you are both wrong, at least where home owners insurance is involved. Acorrding to Don Griffin at the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America home owners insurance would nto cover you or your home if a nuclear "accident" made your home unlivable because standard home policies exclude damage from nuclear plant accidents.

Thousands of people have died and are dying in the aftermath of a gigantic earthquake and tsunami. No one has died from nuclear radiation.

The other fallout from this whole episode is the untrustworthiness of EVERYTHING the Japanese government is saying about it, what little that's been. Residents of Japan have obviously taken that fact into account in making their own decisions (and heeding foreign governments' warnings) about the dangers associated with this incident, many of them opting to remove themselves not only from the immediate danger area but from the country altogether.

As further indication of just how untrustworthy the Japanese government has been, Wikileaks apparently uncovered information (i.e., wires) indicating that the Japanese government knew that its nuclear power plants were not capable of withstanding strong earthquakes.
