The "flood water" in much of North Memphis is actually raw sewage spewing out of the ruptured vents on sanitary lines crossing under the storm water basins behind the Cypress and Workhouse pumps.

It definitely stinks, as does the mud left behind. But all things considered, I'll take stinky over "raging" any day.

"Get that crap out..." isn't just a colorful turn of phrase here because, as Katrina taught us, some of the most dangerous "crap" in this flood water may, in fact, be crap itself, which most flood water contains significant amounts of and poses a health hazard to anyone who wades into it.

Cleaning that crap out of all the places it's managed to seep into is going to present a much bigger challenge than getting rid of some old tires or empty milk jugs.
