Not So Simple

What happened to this simple life?
What we live is now an oblique image of what we used to harness so easily.
It’s a loud distorted noise filled with chaotic bells that are uncontrollably ringing with no end in sight.
It is a vague opening I peer into when viewing our future, which has no clear order or direction.
No longer are our summer days filled with flying kites and lemonade stands, but are subdued with mindless chatter typed by the fingertips of this generation.
No longer are tree houses filled with pirates and princesses with grand imaginations, but are empty and bare.
Our eyes seek lucid and immediate satisfaction with the click of a button.
The manual work and unintentional obstacles that past generations once endured have been replaced with rapid accessibility.
We’ve become emotionally invested in status updates, yet are completely unaware of what it feels like to receive a letter from an actual pen pal.
When was the last time you witnessed the sun rising from the earth’s horizon, and truly appreciated its beauty?
When was the last time you were still long enough to hear the songs of the doves in their evening routine?
This machine we’ve built is slowly taking control and earning a mind of its own.
It’s as though we have trapped ourselves under this massive technological barrier; ironically intended to make this life simpler.
My heart aches for future generations.
on the same level....I wrote this last summer as a matter of fact.

There is little question that technology has caused a major dumbing-down of our society, with many skills and resources that used to be considered important sacrificed to the god of progress.
