At the end of the day, Director Armstrong will be judged on his ability to keep the city safe, and he has every right as director to put who he wants in those appointed positions.

That being said, it does appear that he could've handle this situation better, and it does make you wander if he's in over his head a bit.

There's an old saying, "that what goes around, comes around." If Jeff Clarke has been denied due process, it's only fitting as he has done as he pleased to others through the years, their rights be damned.

Sometime, Colonel Clark, the shoe fits on the other foot just fine, doesn't it?

Fraudulently calling a career position a 'political appointment' if it isn't, is no more clever than a rapist claiming 'she asked for it'.

America is a due process country, and the 'at will' defense does not trump the US Constitution in *any* state.

If there is no objective and documented reason for termination, and any of these career employees fall into a protected class (which they obviously do), then Armstrong likely just threw away a bunch of the taxpayer's money to stroke his own ego.

He could have easily transferred them around to other jobs and let them ease into retirement, but it seems as though his default is not only a criminal mindset, but also the arrogance of power.

I agree with unblinkingeye; appointed positions are always precarious in a regime change and the guy at the top has the right to appoint his own team....however, the guy at the top better realize that his is an appointed position as well, and it's political, and he'll need allies to get his plans implemented. Make too many enemies and you'll be axed too.
