One of the biggest concerns that I had when I read this was the lack of attention given to correctly define the economic word, Monopoly.

As Senator Kohl said, in his letter to the FCC and the DOJ opposing this merger (link to which is in my comment, above): the merger will eliminate competition between two cell phone providers, reduce an already concentrated cell phone market from four to three competitors, who already control 80% of the cell phone market, and it will pose a substantial risk of higher cell phone bills and fewer choices for service.

In short, the merger is a clear violation of anti-trust law.
