      <![CDATA[In Lieu of any substantial public transit in west TN in general, bike commuting reduces the amount of one person occupied cars in traffic. Not to mention the lower you can make demand for gas in an area the lower the price of becomes.

Yes, they can sometimes slow the flow of traffic (which is not a bad thing, as it increases safety for pedestrians, bicycles, and autos alike).<br>
<br>
No, they do not keep shoppers out of stores.<br>
<br>
In fact, Portland, Seattle, and Minneapolis are finding quite the opposite. Bicycles *increase* business.

      <![CDATA[ADaisyADay: if your friends' parked cars were struck by bikes - in the bike lanes - well, I think your friends may have a parking aptitude deficiency.<br>
<br>
Just for the sake of argument, let's assume that bike lanes *do* slow traffic. Slower traffic is safer traffic.

      <![CDATA[JB, I know you can't simply type everything that went on at the meeting nor would many people want to read it, but there was some good stuff here that did not make it. <br>

Like when Fullilove decided to really put her ignorance on displa by saying that a public input process had not taken place and that a detailed traffic study was needed and had not been completed yet.

      <![CDATA[why didnt anybody at the meeting today say to Fullilove "This is not your district, the money is federally provided, construction has already started and you have no legal authority or ability to stop things at this stage. On top of that your actions having the potential to get you removed from the council by encroaching on the administrative branches duties which you can not do according to the charter.

      <![CDATA[I think the best part of this little charade is that they're blocking a work already in progress. Bike lanes were approved one day, the preparation for the lanes began the next day, and these clowns want to show the Mayor that they can slow him down.
