It seems the worst offenders have to be the cards that offer rebates as %'s of purchases in various categories. Where does THAT money come from, if not from an increase in stated, fixed prices for everyone?

News gathering and reporting needn't be too costly in this day and age. Independent journalist Michael Yon's reporting for Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere around the world is a good example of someone providing excellent international news gathering on a modest budget.

When we got our letter from SunTrust, I went to the local branch and told them I was not paying these fees (I was also going to be charged an additional $7 a month because I don't have access to direct deposit); I JUST bailed your butt out a few years ago. I gave them a chance to come up with some reasonable solution - they couldn't - so I left.

Reflect back to when debit transactions were first introduced by the banks. The banks kept fees to retailers low so that retailers would invest in the technology for debit and encourage their customers to use it.

We shouldn't lose sight of how this whole thing started. All these debit fees banks are now rolling back were introduced in response to the fall in bank revenues from debit card transactions that was the consequence of the passing of the Durbin Amendment to the Dodd-Frank bill and the subsequent Federal Reserve ruling to limit debit interchange at $0.22 + 0.05% of the transaction amount.

Those of us who were paying attention to what was happening knew that this was coming and warned against it.
