I always like to make someone go to the trendiest, most de riguer haute cuisine place on the map that's really hard to get into (even better if it's considerable distance from where you live/work, and/or in a very dangerous part of town), then sit down, pore over the menu in excruciating detail asking the waiter and somelier repeatedly about each individual item, the wines, the specials, the food preparation, the chef, and details regarding the kitchen staff and the restaurant's owner's overall food "consciousness" and philosophy.

Then I order a baked potato and a cup of Sanka.

      That's not a lunch martyr, that's a lunch democrat.

A true lunch martyr is a person who picks out the restaurant, then if one person's fries are too salty or glass of water is three degrees too warm or gets the wrong salad dressing or a kid in the next booth won't stop crying or the waiter is slow or stupid or new or ugly or rude or obnoxiously nice, shoulders all the blame, apologizes to everyone, breaks down in tears, and throws herself in front of a church bus.

You think I'm kidding?
