Also, for one more time, I wasn't around in the 70s. My parents hadn't even met yet, much less considered having me, so needless to say I had very little to do with what went on back then, and my ideas on life are not based on what happened back then.

Yes I want my child to succeed and will do what it takes, however, I will not trample over the rights of others to do it.

With the record of segregation when it comes to schools, I believe in my heart that this is more a continuation of segregation since the desegregation lawsuit was filed on Shelby County in 1971.

Sounds just like my own opinion.

"If Ridgeway becomes an ASD School, I will go to court to have my child and hope others will follow all over Memphis, to other schools with the same access to the education that my son is getting. That, I believe is a case that I, we will certainly win."

This sounds an awful lot like "I will do anything within my power to preserve my child's education opportunities and ensure he/she gets the best available."

This is in response to another thread where you kept asking if I knew anyone who was deprived of the right to vote. I said at the time that nationally, no one was concerned with tennessee because it has no effect on the presidential election.

Well, to show you what I meant, President Obama's justice department has ordered Florida to stop purging its voter's roll and to not make any changes until it is vetted by the justice department.

I don't think playing a tax increase scare is going to sway the vote in any of the suburbs, especially when the tax increase of basically the same magnitude is coming whether we vote Yes or No.

Our county taxes are going to have to go up to help fund schools in this county whether we have MSDs or not.

That's going to happen for everyone because Memphis won't be kicking in $68M anymore. The kicker is that county tax funding gets spread across all districts according to ADA.

I don't see any way that an MSD will require a higher level of per pupil funding than the USD will.

As to the racial make up of the schools, if schools are consolidated, there is a chance the racial make up could change in the schools could change on its own depending on who elects to move out of the county and who elects to send their kids to private schools.

I think it's largely known that most of the middle class suburbanites don't want Memphis rule over their children's education, so I would suspect most of that middle class will find alternative paths for educating their children.
