I'm still a little fuzzy on this. Are the charters taking over existing schools in their current location and more or less taking over operations of the specific schools, or are there new schools going up in specific areas to allow for a limited number of students from the specific high school or middle school to attend?
I'm a little fuzzy on his this is working.

If you look at the charters opening in Memphis this year, you'll see that they are actually local people who already have a proven track record for both academic success and family/community engagement. Gestalt operates Power Center Academy in Hickory Ridge and there is no reason their success can't be replicated in North Memphis.

I agree. That's definitely the case in many instances.

I find it hard to believe that there would be a lot of resentment from a neighborhood toward charter programs.

Maybe that'll be the truth in those areas where the parents want the school to serve as nothing more than a babysitter. An outsider coming in and asking them to take a more active role in their child's education might be met with resentment if the parents simply don't care, so I could see that.

In that case though, I really don't blame the charter system, the teachers, the schools, or anyone else.

That's nothing compared to the work I give to my AP physics kids.

Homer, since the ASD is the state's baby, I suspect that there will be deviations from the norm.

The problem I see with ASD schools is the stigma that will be associated with them. New coaches, under the stress of no cooperation from the community will not make any difference.
