Not only do they want to double AP and dual enrollment, they added the money for enough teachers to cut the class sizes to the current SCS levels. Cutting class sizes is part of the recommendation for advanced curriculum.

They want to change optional from first-come to lottery.

I didn't see the school board comments as being particularly anti-suburban proposals.

I saw the comments as being anti-cost cutting proposals.

"If there is a challenge to Aitken's contract, and it is ruled invalid, there would be no buyout."

That much is true. However, if the votes are there to name him the super now with this current board, with his contract set, then the old contract and its legality doesn't matter anymore I don't believe.

You are correct that if they both had contracts expiring next summer, you could just let both expire and the board could pursue more or less an open replacement process to either hire one of the two existing supers or hire someone else.

It just seems to me, from the actions of the board, that they believe they have enough support to make Aitken officially THE guy, which is why I say he's likely to come out of this smelling like a rose either way.

That is why I think you will see a challenge to the validity of that extension.

That's what struck me AP. When you look at Orgel's actions to pursue action on Cash's contract and now Mallott's action to more or less call for a vote on making Aitken the official super, it tells me that they believe they have the votes to make it happen now.

I've seen enough of politics to know that it's unlikely they would put something like that on the agenda if they didn't feel they had the votes or at least could get the votes to make it happen.

As I said though, I'm almost more interested in the theater of it all than the actual outcome.

OTP was disagreeing with me that John had the 12 votes, part of a discussion as to why Billy would make an issue of Cash's contract at this time, in fact schedule a special meeting to discuss the issue. Stunning the number of people that do not see the whole board nor ever look under the surface and ask themselves the simple question: "Why would he/she say/do that?"

John has the 12 votes.

Betty Mallott is formally bringing the resolution to put Aitken on the table to more or less make him the super now.
We will find out if there are enough votes for him. If nothing else, it should be good theater watching those in opposition come up with reasons for their opposition that don't include his skin color.

Jun 14: "There are, at this point in time, not enough votes on the BOE to give Atkins the job. "

Yet in fact Betty Mallot, a former elected MCS school board member, and current USB member, will submit a resolution to the USB on Tuesday, to turn over the responsibility of running Memphis City Schools to Shelby County Schools Supt. John Aitken.

Want to think that one through again?
Attention: neither Kash nor Aitken should be the next supt. Being supt. of SCS is simply easier than being supt of MCS. If Aitken becomes the next supt., then what theatre of the absurd we can look forward to when angry black mothers and angry black board members (and there shall be many) eat Aitken alive.

Homer, yu have first amendment rights like anyone else, however the constitution does not protect you, when you bring ill repute on the concern that hires you. If you disparage an institution where you cannot be indentified as a part of that institution, you are fine.

The experiences I mention were several years ago when I did have some equity in a company, but I sold that equity and retired. Just do odd projects from time to time, working from home.

That is an interesting question you asked.
