Scripps Paid Former Head of Newspaper Division $4.4M Severance

The man who once ran E.W. Scripps Co.’s newspaper division got more than $4.4 million in cash and stock awards after leaving the company last May. Details on severance payments to Mark Contreras were disclosed in the Scripps (NYSE: SSP) proxy statement to shareholders March 26.

Contreras was a senior vice president for six years until his “involuntary termination without cause” on May 25, 2011.

I wonder whether the Scripps "mother ship" was any more sensitive or humane in letting these big shots go than the CA's management was when it shit-canned all those reporters.
