It does wrong to voters to capriciously subject a set of them to extra steps. But we have twin compounding problems:

1) If voter histories later erode away for some voters, they go into end-stage purge mode.

If you're talking about the Presidential Election you may be right, but voter suppression in Shelby County wouldn't be aimed at affecting the Presidential Election.

I think it's pretty fair to say that we know that no matter how blue Shelby County votes, the state of Tennessee's electoral votes will go to the GOP.

Were that true, the two Democrats on the Election Commission must either be idiots, or asleep or just plain criminal. Any reason neither of them are raising an alarm?
