I don't want to be the one to say the sky is falling, but get ready for massive layoffs at the Fed Ex hub in the near future. The Memphis Daily News recently reported how Fed Ex has been doing well in its ground transportation side, but losing money in its express side (the airport).

I didn't say FedEx and WalMart were my heroes, just that for jobs to exist businesses have to be here, and I don't know how much more we can get in this county from logisitics companies.

I still stand by my point that companies needing blue collar labor locate facilities and jobs largely based on wage rates and of course what the location has to offer in terms of logistics if necessary.

Nisaan opened a major plant near Jackson, MS, and Toyota opened one not far from Tupelo.

Why didn't they open in Memphis? I don't think it was racial politics.

@oldtime----I agree on the vision for the area in that the city officials and the ones with money to invest in the vision of Memphis have fallen short. We think small in a lot of areas and we will continue to be considered a small big city as long as we never try to capitalize on our strengths and continue to look for more opportunities to be a major player nationally and globally.

      Memphis is in a spot.

The leaders of Memphis and Shelby County are at fault for not utilizing the strength that Memphis has.

Memphis should be a larger transportation and logistics center than it is. All of the geographic features are here. It just takes leaders that have the vision and the priority of doing it.

In the meantime, Memphis has not used it's greatest potential, an entertainment city.
