OTP, you just had AP explain it to you, and you still don't get it.

When the property value in an area decreases, ultimately there will be a reassessment of that value, and the amount of tax collected on that piece of property will be less if the value has decreased.

That's what has happened in Cordova and Hickory Hill.

Yes there are owners still in those homes, but they are going to be paying lower taxes on the property than were collected in the past. If the city of Memphis takes over all of the county and runs everything from schools on down, the same will happen to many of the areas providing a good chunk of the funding for county government and schools.

My comment was based on any announcement that the City of Memphis would annex Eads and Fisherville, both of which are close to Arlington. If you think my home value would not increase significantly from increased housing demand in the Town of Arlington in that instance, you are sadly mistaken.
Do try to get to an Adult Education Center as soon as you can.

I forgot to mention Eads, Fisherville, etc. Annexing those areas will more than make up for the ones from shelby incorporated cities that move.

You see, Grove, even in foreclosures, the bank or whoever holds the mortage will still have to pay property taxes, whether the house is vacant or not. As far a s grass cut, hedges trimmed, etc, the city will cut it for them and assess them a nice bill for doing so.

So, Grove and the rest of you that have a mind to, Fayette, Desoto, Tipton Counties, etc is ready to welcome you, especially their second and third rate schools.

      Nice job gentlemen.

"Those newly elected members won't take office until the merger date of August 2013, however, although they might be permitted to take office earlier — again, under dispensation from Judge Mays."

So it seems THIS board will have to make decisions on the TCP plan unless Judge Mays intervenes.

"In a little over a month, on August 2nd, the county's voters will select permanent members for those seven districts, which the County Commission intends to enlarge to 13 eventually, if Mays should agree. "

I thought 13 was a forgone conclusion.
