As I said, I won't posit a guess on the Memphis vote. I was just stating that most likely the Memphis vote would have to overcome No votes from Millington and the unincorporated areas.

This 0.5 cent increase will take Shelby County to the max sales tax allowed by state law.

Sorry, we will be entitled to our share of county tax money (the ADA) along with state money and whatever we choose to additionally contribute from municipal taxes.

We have a handle on our costs and don't agree with Mr. Ritz.

I still contend that if and when MSDs are formed, any money the suburbs have to contribute from their own tax funds will be miniscule.

We'll all see our property taxes go way up for schools, but the funding conduit for the majority of school taxes for MSDs will be Shelby County, not the individual cities. This move by the SCC is just step one of many to help fund all the scale efficiencies we'll have gained from the merger.

I'm confident that come Monday, we'll see the familiar 8-5 vote, and this tax will hit the ballot.
