Agree. I see it as 2 main issues, 1) a complete disagreement on policy, and 2) property values that are negatively impacted whenever the district with those policies moves in.

Granted we still have SCS policy today, but everyone knows that won't last.

AP, you know our learned friend will be by in a minute to tell you that there doesn't have to be any positive gain for your city's students for this to take place.

Then of course in the next breath he will tell you your motivation is race only.

If this were truly a utopian solution to education and we still wanted out, you could claim race.

"What you are really saying is that you don't want majority black control over the schools that your children attend."

To take the issue down to that one thought and sentence is a bit much for me and certainly does not represent my position on this most contentious of battles.

It boils down to academics and discipline for me. When there is a no fail policy for grades k through 3 and a one only fail policy for grades 4 to 6 or whatever, that is the epitome of not taking responsibility of teaching the children under your jurisdiction. I'm not suggesting an answer for this problem, just stating that the solution exposed by the Board of Education does not get it for me or the children involved.

Ultimately, regardless of what happens in our local case, there is always going to be a housing pattern issue if you're hoping to balance races. The questions are, 1) do the courts have an appetite for trying to balance race in schools, and if so 2) at what level of government do the courts want to enforce racial balances?

As I illustrated, you clearly can't balance racial quotas on a national or even state level.

The final plan that the county was under when it was released from its federal court order signaling that it was finally a unitary district is just fine.

I tend to agree with this article that there appears to be another potential public school redefinition on the horizon. Going back even further in history, you had Plessy v. Ferguson that allowed separate but equal schools.

Why is it if the suburban residents do not want their children to attend a unified school system that will be dominated by a corrupt and failing city school system they are wanting to bring back Jim Crow?Could it be they want a better education than the city school systen can provide? No gang infuences resulting in
brawls after school?I don't think hard core racism is necessarily the exclusive domain of white people
these days.
