When you get through with your ramblings, the policies of the SCS and the MCS, when it comes to donations, are essentially the same. Property, equipment belongs to the district in any case.

Tennessee Law says that donations with instructions on how to use them, cash, must be used according to the donors wish.

Equipment, property is different than cash. Most school systems that I have ever ran into reads the same way about property.

If you interview the incoming board members, ask them to sign a pledge about the donated property, will you?

Else, they can just casually change their mind after giving verbal assurance. You know, like the Memphians on the SCC when they changed their minds about the county wide sales tax increase after giving their word to the suburbs they would do no such thing.

Here is the specific language, just in case someone wants to see what the written policy in SCS really is:

"Any item purchased for a particular school by a support organization automatically becomes the property of SCS and should remain at the school."

Just enough wiggle room, huh? The property belongs to the SYSTEM, not the school.

There is a discussion going on that gifts to schools in the county from fundraisers and such will be spread around the entire district after the merger. county parents are saying that the money and gifts earmarked for individual schools would be hijacked and sent to other schools within the MCS.

As a matter of fact, in veiw of my age, I and my family, mother, aunts, etc have supported republicans in the pst. My mother liked and voted for Eisenhower.

The problem with those jobs created is that they aren't going to Memphis residents. The city is losing tax payers no matter what happens with job creation.

If all the tax payers are living in the suburbs or surrounding counties, then it won't take long for the businesses and job growth to follow those people.

By the way I've never been one to say Memphis was becoming Detroit.

I don't think it's a matter of having to nominate someone dorky because they will answer to the puppet masters. I think it's because that's what we've been relegated to in politics, career politicians and a handful of non-career politicians who don't mind having their name drug through the mud.

Many of the best minds don't get involved in politics because of the character assaults.

I do think Bruce is on to something though, but I think it dates back even further to Kennedy's election in 1960.
