No such thing. The ASD is an arm of the state department of education, charters and msds won't technically be the same.

One more thing I'll add is what I said on the CA site regarding this issue.

This move by the city/county, if aimed at MSD formation, is about like trying to use a penny to derail a train. It'll have about as much impact in slowing the momentum for MSDs, and it will likely only further galvanize suburbanites against the city of Memphis.

      OTP,

For some reason you automatically assume I am on the side of voter ID laws. I've said before that while I don't think ID requirements are a bad idea, they have to be done in a way that allows plenty of advanced warning (like maybe a 2 year grace period), and in that time period, you have to make it both easy and free for anyone to be able to obtain an ID, and you have to come up with a way to address exceptions for people who may not have a social security number or some other form of ID. Point being, if you're going to require IDs, you have to do it in a way that it doesn't disenfranchise anyone, unless they CHOOSE not to participate.

I honestly don't understand what voter ID laws have to do with MSD laws though.

On another subject, I do find it laughable that a promise of pre-K was supposedly made.

      AP,

I think the message is two-fold.

In East Memphis and Midtown, it's vote FOR the regressive tax on the poor to save on your property tax bill.

In North Memphis and South Memphis, it's "stick it to the suburbs" by paying more of your money in to the pot.

And OTP, your post is the definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face. You're willing to pay more money, cost yourself money, and in general cause yourself all kinds of hardship for the SOLE goal of trying to keep someone else from getting what they want.

Like I have told you before, some things, the city and county majority are on the same idea. Why should we let you, at some point in time, try to create msds and you won't have to increase your property taxes to do so.

Make no mistake, the resolve of the majority of Shelby County is against your msds and have nothing but a strong, unbending resolve to do whatever it takes to stop, make it more costly or delay it for years and years.
Judge Mays and the courts will not have the final say.

      Airport Finances Require City Subsidies
It’s time to take a close look at the current business choices at the airport today. Let’s look more closely at the Leases that have been given to the private companies now doing business at Tupelo Regional and the finances that are requiring huge City subsidies
Shea Flinn is quoted in the CA as saying that if this tax does not pass, Memphians can expect a property tax increase.

I do feel sure all those poor people in Memphis who would pay more for food, gas, baby diapers, and other necessities will be very pleased to pay more taxes so those affluent folks in East Memphis won't have to face a property tax increase on those expensive homes in their segregated, gated communities.

Good point there, Shea. That should reallly resonate with black Memphians.
