That's the whole point of the filibuster, and if you, as a party majority, let a simple threat of a filibuster halt you on bringing a bill to the floor, then why would the minority party ever NOT threaten to bring a filibuster?

I believe the issue with Mr. Reid was that he made a patently false accusation against Mr. Romney. Namely, that Mr. Romney had paid no taxes.

I agree with you that the Republicans set a record in the 110th Congress, but our unlearned friend was referering to the 112th. He was wrong, as usual, on that "fact".

After all, from what I've been told, the Republicans are on their way to becoming a minor player in the national picture. This should be a landslide Presidential election, and I'm sure both the Senate and House will have Democrats taking a stronger hold...at least from the things I've read about the direction of our nation on here.

They have filibustered over 90 percent of the bills that Obama wanted.

Hell, Virginia, West Virginia, who cares, he was still the most knowledgable senator on the rules there.

Without mentioning how the rules could be changed and when is very important to the subject.

As far as spelling and/or grammar, my nice fat Railroad Retirement check is deposited into my account every month, regardless of my spelling and grammar.

What is your excuse for halfway facts? Maybe you should take a few drinks.

When Ap says for at least part of the Obama Administration, he had the 60 votes to force cloture is not altogether true. Only on 2 occasions did the president have a majority, 60 votes, counting the 2 independents, and as I have shown in my earlier post, each occasion was for less than 2 months.

Harry Reid was fearful of changing the filibuster rule, because some in his party warned him that, somewhere in the future, if the gop had the majority, it would come back to bite him.

For at least part of the Obama administration, Democrats had 60 votes in the Senate,more than enough, but did not change the 3/5 majority of the Senate vote cloture rule, which has been a rule of the Senate since 1975.

And you are telling us the Senate Majority Leader was afraid to make a change due to fear.

Fear of what, pray tell?

BTW, Section 5 of the Constitution gives the federal legislative bodies authority to make their own rules.

Why don't you try checking your facts before you post?

The president promised that the unemployment would fall to a certain point and go no later than by a certain date. It was a political promise, based on the knowledge of what was known about the depth of this recession at that time.

I have been out of work since January 29,2009(surely,just a coincidence) and the only reason I have money at al is due to an insurance settlement from my last job.How long should we have to wait for a recovery fueled by raising taxes on anybody who has money in a time of poor economic health?
