The AG is the top law enforcement officer in the state.

His duties are listed in the state code, and are numerous, but this is one of them:

To give the governor, secretary of state, state treasurer, comptroller of the treasury, members of the general assembly and other state officials, when called upon, any legal advice required in the discharge of their official duties.

One can only speculate, but it does seem a stretch to think the AG and Mr. Goins have not conferred since the Appellate decision.

From a purely legal context, it appears that Mr. Goins is doing exactly what he wants to do and the AG, the top legal officer in the state, is on his side.

I just think that Mr. Goins is being prudent in his actions. Nobody is going to be hurt, and everyone's rights are protected, if the votes are kept provisional until the Supremt Court, by action or inaction, gives guidance.

Did not the Memphis lawyer address his letter of complaint about Mr. Goins to the Attorney General? I recall the letter asked The Atorney General to stop Mr. Goins' actions and force him to obey the Appellate Court.

It is like the old premise in law, it is better than 100 guilty go free rather than jail one innocent man. This is what we have here.

That is why this pending election is so important. With 3 or 4 justices of the Supreme Court in their seventies, the next president will have an oppotunity to probably fill 2 to 3 seats on that court.

Great idea, wish you would organize all those who only have Library ID, no other form of acceptable ID. Bring in Al Sharpton and march from the Library to the nearest pollling place, holding your Library ID on high, and demand to vote. Any other way than by provisional ballot, that is.

Should be fun to see how many are in the group.

Those hundreds, and probably thousands and thousands of poor, elderly, disabled Memphians are curiously absent so far, are they not?

15 people out of 151,000 so far in early voting have cast provisional ballots because they did not have acceptable ID. Where, oh where, are the masses who are being disenfranchised?

Do you really think that thousands and thousands of those poor, elderly, disabled Memphians have Photo cards from the library as their only source of photo ID?

You do realize that those who are elderly or disabled can get an absentee ballot (no ID required) and vote from the comfort of their own homes? Of course you knew that.

This is about making sure only qualified, registered voters can cast ballots.
