The USPS is only in bad shape because the republicans that passed this poison pill really wants to put them out of business.

In 2006, when nobody was paying attention, a lame duck session of Congress, in which there was still a Republican majority, passed a neat little poison-pill called the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act, which required the USPS to pre-fund 75 years worth of health-care benefits over the next 10 years.

I don't think you were here then, but, we had a very large employer here. It was the largest private hospital in the world, Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Not to mention that most of the jobs are only part-time with no real security.

Fed Ex is also too dependent on fuel cost and the whims of business. If the USPS were allowed to openly compete with Fed Ex, you would see an immediate downsizing.

Not to mention all the other businesses that locate pieces of their operations here to be close to a major insertion point for shipping.

I don't think I've heard that argument before, but I'm open to hear what you believe would be better about Memphis if FedEx had never located here.

Well, let us put it this way. If the taxpayers had not provided the infra-structure and accessories, no he wouldn't have built that.

As for as going over the cliff, Obama has reiterated that he will insist on taxes going up for the wealthy.

The so called takers, as you wrongfully call them are not as large as you would have one to think. They also get a much smaller piece of the pie than their wealthy counterparts.

If you aren't one of the 1%, why would you care about how much they are taxed, unless you 1) hope to be part of the 1% some day, or 2) you believe their tax rates impact you on some level?
