"Several Shelby County high schools are among the best public high schools in America, according to reports by U.S. News and Newsweek magazine published in May 2012.
U.S News ranked Houston High School and Collierville High School on its list of “Top Performing” public high schools in the nation. Out of the 21,776 schools eligible for the national rankings, Houston is listed 1,036, and Collierville is 1,071.

Just read an article in the Nashville Tennessean today regarding the standing of Tennessee's Public Schools. According to the state TDOE, Tennessee Public Systems are ranked 46 out of 50 states.

GWCarver, in light of this by your own state education officials, why don't you stop crowing about how good your schools are.

There is no need to argue why we think mediation is happening.

We will find out soon enough if mediation worked. For the sake of the future of the county, I hope it does.

If it doesn't work, we will hear a ruling soon enough.

I know that you are not a lawyer, but, how can you say stupid things like that?

Memphis is not the worst district in the state, Memphis has the most improvished, environmentally bereft kids in the state. When 25 ro 35% of the kinds in a district where 80% of them are below the poverty line shows that it is not the district, but the socio, economic status of the students.

The schools in the county are better because the socio-economics per household is better.

I forgot the most important thing about Milan, Tenn. surrendering it's charter. That does not mean that the county must form a BOE with a superintendent and such.

Election and appointment of BOE members:

TCA 49-2-201.

As you can see if you read the above, the number of board members for charter, home rule districts can have not less than 3 but no more than the total number of county commissioners after 1992.

In other words, since there are 13 county commissioners, the maximum number of board members on the BOE is 13, and that is just what the CC is contemplating.

You are completely wrong about this.

There was never a need for the city to be a part of this anyway. The city of Memphis is a municipality and, thus, has no constitutionality over what another municipality do or what the state does or doesn't do, as long as it does not effect the city itself.

I couldn't help but see your bac and forward on why the judge ordered mediation on the school. GWC seems to think that the judge has already decided that the judge will rule for the munis and that this mediation is about the transition, school buildings, etc. You seem, in an abstract way, to agree.

This is not Charlotte. For one thing, before Charlotte entered into the plan that they have now, the affluent parts of Charlotte and Mecklenberg County had more funds than the inner city.

In Charlotte, the city schools get more than twice the money the suburban schools get on a per pupil basis. It wasn't always that way, only after the systems were merged.

I completely understand why urban schools need more funds per pupil than suburban schools.
